So, after an extremely extended hiatus from the site (and blogging in general) I’m back to work on iMonolith. The first thing to change? An official URL to drop the WordPress from the site’s domain name. The second? Coverage of Apple’s iPhone 3.0 Software preview.

The immanent and oft rumored fall Apple press event finally received a formal invite today. Tuesday, September 9th should see new iPods. Possible updates should come to the Nano line in the form of a second-gen body style with a larger widescreen for video viewing when held horizontally. The Touch is due to get improvements by way of an internal GPS antenna (for all those location-based apps) and a few minor cosmetic alterations. No word yet on Classic updates or the possibility of a MacBook refresh.

iPhone passcode security flaw to be fixed in Sept update

Tuesday – A user on the MacRumors forum reported they had come across a flaw with the iPhone’s passcode entry screen. Namely, there’s a simple, hack-free way to blast past the entry screen and into the phone’s more sensitive information. By simply pressing the Emergency Call button and double-tapping the home button, any user can bypass the four-digit code entry screen and bring up your favorite calling list. The only exception to this flaw would be if you’ve previously set the double-tap action to conjure up your phone’s iPod feature.

Apple acknowledged the problem

yesterday and has issued a statement promising a software update in September which should repair this “minor flaw”.
